Photographing little ones can be a big adventure, full of highs and lows! We've put together a few tips that will hopefully help you take beautiful photos of your kids.
Anyone who has ever tried to direct a child in a photo shoot knows that it can be a bit like herding cats - pointless, frustrating, chaotic, and amusing for other people to watch.
Our biggest tip would have to be - relax! Capturing the essence of your child, their quirks and their personality, won't happen by barking orders at them or forcing them to pose. Let them be the guides (while you follow at a close distance with your finger poised on the shutter of course).
Try and focus on the little things you love about them, the way they bite their lip when concentrating, the way they grip their favourite teddy, or the streaks of paint on their cheeks during arts and crafts. Let them play, run, make a mess, sing songs, dance, jump in puddles, laugh - one day when you look back on your photos you'll be glad you captured them just as they were.

Interiors
We were commissioned to begin cataloging the work of a local builder who is looking to expand his business and develop a web presence displaying his beautifully built homes.
Photographing interiors in this fashion was fairly new to us and a great chance to improve our skills. In theory, with the right lens (typically something starting around a 16mm equivalent like this or this) and a tripod, photographing interiors should be easier because the subject doesn't move right?
While this much is true, the wide angle lenses needed to capture a room also come with quite a bit of distortion at their widest end. This is where post processing with some of Photoshop's handy features comes in.
There is also a fine line in interior or real estate photography between showing the entirety of a room in its best light, and misrepresenting the size and shape of the room completely - something to be avoided, especially if trying to sell a house!

Family photo sessions
Some people like to have a photo session on a regular basis to chronicle the growth of their family, and sometimes it is a milestone that prompts a shoot such as the impending arrival of a new addition.
One could only hope to look as gorgeous and as radiant as this mum-to-be only a few weeks away from her due date!
We had the pleasure of following up with a newborn photography session after baby girl's arrival.

Maternity photography
A maternity photo shoot is beautiful at any time of year. In warmer weather there is the opportunity for bare bellies and long flowing dresses. The cooler weather lends itself to lots of layers and accessories as well as the opportunity for bright colours to really make the photo pop!
We later had the opportunity to photograph the daughter of this gorgeous mum-to-be.

Resin Dew
If you haven't done so already you should definitely check out local Canberra jewellery maker Resin Dew. These products are just so gorgeous! Lots of colour, so many fun designs, and so affordable that you could easily justify having a pair of earrings for every day of the week (or month).
We had some fun practising our product photography and we were pretty happy with the results. Let us know what you think!

Hello and welcome!
Our names are Maarit and Debbie and we are two friends who share a passion for photography. We decided to join forces to take our hobby one step further and that is how Silver Eyes Photography came to be.
Maarit brings her beautiful skills behind the lens and her growing interest in graphic design to this venture, the latest step in a lifelong passion for photography. Debbie's love for photography and her exceptional talent have given her international glory, recently winning first place in the International Garden Photographer of the Year - Beauty of Plants category. Debbie has also had her work appear in a number of magazines and on a magazine cover.
Whilst our focus is on beautiful portraits of mothers-to-be, babies, children and families, we love to experiment and will consider almost any subject that you may need photographing! Our Facebook page is where we showcase some of our client portrait images. On the Silver Eyes Photography blog we will also be showcasing other works that we have been doing and current projects we are working on. We hope you enjoy what you see as much as we enjoy what we do!
