Canberra Maternity Photography - Winter sunshine

This beautiful mother-to-be was determined to wear this gorgeous dress for her maternity session, and we're so glad she did. How amazing does she look?

Although the ground was cold underneath our feet, Canberra turned on a spectacular winter's day, the sun shining with the promise of spring just around the corner. Winter? What winter?

Winter babies - Canberra Maternity Photography

The fiery colours of the autumn leaves made the images from this session feel warm and cosy. In actual fact it was a typical Canberra winter morning: subzero overnight temperature; frost on the ground; soft light filtering through the trees; a very cold breeze; and the promise of spring around the corner when we stood in the warm sunlight.

We photographed big brother when he was in an obliging mood, a few times throughout the session. For the rest of the time he enjoyed sword fighting in the sunshine with his dad while we enjoyed photographing mum and her beautiful belly.

A surprise awaits - will it be a baby brother or sister?

Baby Lucas - Canberra Family Photography

It was a wet and gloomy day outside when we had the opportunity to photograph gorgeous baby Lucas and his beautiful sisters. Thankfully, their amazing home was full of light with massive windows in each room, the rain and wind forgotten as we stood near the roaring fire.

Little Lucas was happy to stare dreamily at the outside world, and his big sisters were happy to alternate between posing (cheekily) and playing (cheekily). It's lovely to have older siblings involved in a new baby session, and such a privilege to capture the early stages of their relationships.

Autumn colours - Canberra Family Photography

A big backyard full of fallen leaves at a home in one of Canberra’s older suburbs was a wonderful setting for this family photography session.

In between all of the leaf-throwing fun, we also captured these energetic siblings in some of their quieter moments – cuddled up on the couch, or blowing bubbles in the yard. How sweet it was to see baby girl so eager to play with her older siblings, and how much they adored her.

Any moment, any milestone, any age - there is no better time than right now to capture your family, just as they are.

Easter Bubby - Canberra Child and Family Photography

We’ve known this little beauty since she was tucked away inside her mum’s belly. We officially met her for the first time when she was very, very new

What a privilege it is to be invited to be a part of this family's journey again! This time we celebrated her being a gorgeous, engaging infant (and it was a great excuse to dress her up like a little bunny). Thanks to mum and dad for going all out with the outfits and props!

Little Brother - Canberra Family Photography

Big sister was clearly besotted with the new addition to the family. She was a little shy about appearing in photos at first, but with some gentle encouragement (and a little bribery with the promise of blowing bubbles in the yard, and being entrusted with ‘holding’ her handsome little brother) she warmed up in the end!

The lovely (and tricky) thing about photographing children is that they are well and truly in charge of the session - every single session is different! It’s up to us to follow their lead, be patient, and capture them when they are ready to shine.

Portrait Photography - Teenagers

Teen portrait sessions are de rigueur overseas, somewhat of a rite of passage for teenagers transitioning from school leavers to young, independent adults. Teen portrait sessions aren't as popular in Australia as we think they should be! What parent wouldn't love some sunny, natural, beautiful portraits of their 'little babies' to capture these important years (some would say their most important years) as their little darlings really come into their own?

Mums and dads, it's time to put your foot down and get some precious photos of your grown-up babies that aren't duck face selfies. Don't take no for an answer, assure them that they will have a great selection of photos to use as profile pictures (and for you to hang on your wall of course), and book your portrait session today. You'll be so glad you did!
